Ikea has a history of utilising effective technology that lessen the carbon impact of the company. The three-wheeled electric motorcycles with solar panels are the company's most recent significant step, and it will be used for a home delivery experiment.

The testing was carried out as part of a programme undertaken by the Dutch Ikea shop in Delft. In the pilot, an electric tricycle with the IKEA logo and bright colours was utilised for deliveries in the vicinity of the store's metropolitan regions.

The SunRider electric freight tricycle has a range of around 100 km per charge. Although the side-mounted panels may not be in the best place for peak energy generation, the solar panels undoubtedly aid with that range.
