The Halifax, Nova Scotia-based Irving Shipbuilding Inc. (ISI) recently said that it has chosen to provide the renowned international logistics firm GEODIS the inbound logistics contract for its shipbuilding and repair operations.

As part of the National Shipbuilding Program of Canada, GEODIS will oversee incoming logistics services for ISI's Halifax facility under this contract. The Canadian Surface Combatant, Arctic Offshore Patrol Ships, and Halifax Class Frigate Repair Contracts are the three main shipbuilding programs that will be served by the services.

The management of this contract will be led by GEODIS' Project Logistics team in Canada, which will make use of the company's vast global network of offices to guarantee smooth operations. GEODIS' in-house IT tools will help ISI gain improved visibility throughout the whole supply chain.

Michael Snow, Irving Shipbuilding's Director of Supply Chain, claims that GEODIS was chosen because of its remarkable logistical skills and global reach. The choice was also impacted by GEODIS's dedication to working with regional businesses, which matched ISI's goal of completing its duties under Canada's National Shipbuilding Strategy for Industrial Technological Benefits.

A key component of the National Shipbuilding Strategy, Canada's Industrial and Technological Benefits (ITB) Policy seeks to promote innovation, job development, and economic expansion. By fostering job opportunities, bolstering the naval industrial base, and rejuvenating Canadian shipyards, ISI's activities are essential in achieving these goals.

Senior Vice President of Project Logistics at GEODIS, Luke Mace, highlighted GEODIS' vast experience in defense and marine logistics while expressing excitement about the company's cooperation with Irving Shipbuilding. Mace highlighted how GEODIS can customize solutions to fulfill unique customer and governmental requirements while upholding safety standards.

This partnership highlights Irving Shipbuilding and GEODIS's shared dedication to excellence in maritime logistics and represents a major turning point for both companies. Such relationships will be essential to promoting innovation, efficiency, and economic growth as Irving Shipbuilding maintains its leading position in Canada's naval industry.
