DP World Enters the Fashion and Retail Logistics Space - Supply Chain Tribe by Celerity

The acquisition of Cargo Services Far East Ltd., a multinational supply chain company with its headquarters located in Hong Kong, has been finalised by DP World.

When it comes to origin services—transporting items from the manufacturing floor to the customer's door—Cargo Services leads the industry. In Greater China as well as in Asia, Europe, South Africa, and the US, it employs over 2,500 individuals.

With the achievement of this noteworthy milestone, DP World currently employs over 115,000 people across 800 locations worldwide. It will run more than 200 goods forwarding offices by year's end, handling up to 95% of all trade flows worldwide.

Cargo Services was one of the first international logistics service providers to enter the Chinese market, having been founded in 1989. It has developed a broad array of solutions over the years, including air, sea and land freight, as well as origin purchase order management, for a variety of industries. High-end supply chain management services are included here for clients in the US, UK, Europe, South Africa, Australia, and New Zealand who are retail and luxury retailers. Additionally, it has added speciality cruise logistics services to its global offering.

Industry-specific logistics solutions are needed for perishables, automotive, chemicals, healthcare, retail, and technology. Developing customised services that answer the unique opportunities and challenges faced by each industry is DP World's strategic focus. Providing all-inclusive, industry-specific solutions that promote productivity, creativity, and expansion is the aim.

"Cargo Services' logistics expertise and global network perfectly complement our own footprint and will be yet another tool in our offering to customers," stated Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem, Group Chairman & Chief Executive Officer, DP World. Combined, we'll be a formidable force driving international trade. Through the integration of our capabilities—technology, expanding logistics portfolio, and strategic infrastructure—with the knowledge and connections of Cargo Services, we will be able to provide unmatched value to clients looking to expand into new markets or fortify current trade relationships. We are thrilled to have our new coworkers join us at this crucial juncture in our development."

In line with this sentiment, John Lau, Group Managing Director of Cargo Services Group, emphasised the advantages of teaming up: "We will be able to continue providing our customers with top-notch freight-forwarding and logistics services because we are joining DP World, which gives us access to extensive resources and expertise." I have faith that our teams will work well together to achieve growth since we have a common goal and plan.

Officially, the acquisition process is done, and over the next six months, full integration is planned. The united team will pool all necessary resources to guarantee a seamless integration process, giving operational continuity first priority and meeting client demands.

Lau will continue working with the company and take on a senior leadership role at DP World in order to facilitate a smooth transition.
