In as many months, Ryder System, Inc. (NYSE: R), a pioneer in fleet management, specialized transportation, and supply chain solutions, has announced the launch of a second multiclient logistics facility at a premier U.S.-Mexico port. The newest location is close to the Ysleta Port of Entry, the busiest commercial port in the El Paso area and a vital trade route for products traveling north from Juarez, Mexico. El Paso, Texas is home to this location. The building is intended to accommodate the increase in nearshoring activities following Mexico's ascent to the top spot among U.S. trading partners last year.

The Ysleta port handles between nine and ten percent of the almost $800 billion in yearly U.S.-Mexico trade, according to the most recent figures. According to Frank Bateman, vice president of supply chain operations at Ryder, "it's second only to the Port of Laredo, Texas, which processes nearly 40% of goods crossing the border-and where we recently opened another new logistics center." "An additional benefit of the El Paso location is its strategic location along a well-traveled truck stop for both domestic cargoes traveling east and west along I-10 and trucks traveling north and south across the border.

With convenient access to interstate highways in all directions, Ryder's recently constructed 50,000-square-foot multiclient logistics complex is situated less than five miles from the border between the United States and Mexico and less than 15 miles from the airport. It offers value-added services, 24/7 yard operations, ambient storage for imports and exports, and consolidation and de-consolidation as well as cross-dock services. The new building features all-access CCTV throughout, 20 dock openings, and enough for 350 trailers.

According to Ricardo Alvarez, vice president of supply chain operations for Ryder Mexico, "the new El Paso site is just across the border from Juárez, Mexico, which is the most important industrial market along the border with over 300 export-oriented manufacturing plants that produce everything from car components to snack foods." That, together with its closeness to the United States, is one of the reasons Mexico is so alluring to businesses trying to diversify their supply networks. If you load up a truck with everything you require, it will be to your US distribution center in a matter of days rather than weeks or months.

In February, Ryder announced the expansion of its drayage yard in Nuevo Laredo, Mexico, which makes it easier for drivers in the United States to transfer freight across the border, and the opening of a 228,000-square-foot multiclient warehouse and cross dock in Laredo, which is located just three miles from the World Trade Bridge.

For almost thirty years, we have been developing our cross-border capabilities in Mexico. According to Steve Sensing, president of supply chain and dedicated transportation solutions at Ryder, "it takes years to develop relationships in manufacturing and with Mexican carriers, as well as customs and compliance expertise to ensure faster, more secure border crossings." Additionally, we are able to expedite our customers' products from the manufacturing floor to the door of the end user thanks to our completely integrated supply chain and transportation solutions, which are supported by the best security protocols and end-to-end visibility technologies.

Every year, Ryder oversees more than 250,000 freight movements across the Mexican border on behalf of clients in the consumer packaged goods, automotive, industrial, and technology sectors. The company offers comprehensive cross-border solutions, including manufacturing support, warehousing and distribution, transportation logistics, cross-border drayage, customs clearance, Foreign Trade Zone access, and more - all supported by best-in-class security protocols. It also manages approximately six million square feet of multiclient and dedicated warehouse space throughout Mexico. Additionally, Ryder is certified by major trade associations including C-TPAT and AEO, which guarantees quicker, safer international trade while lowering client inspection and fee costs.
