Leading supply chain management firm Armstrong Logistics has expanded its fleet of 86 vehicles, which is now exclusively Volvo, by adding a new Volvo FM Electric truck to its lineup following successful trials.
This is a first for the growing company, which will run it out of its combined 377,000 square foot distribution center located in Magna Park, Lutterworth.
With an I-shift automatic 12-speed transmission and three electric motors generating 666 horsepower, the new Volvo FM can tow a 42-ton gross train weight. When all six batteries are used, the vehicle's entire energy storage provides 540 kWH of instant power and energy savings. The car will take eight to ten hours to fully charge using an AC charger, or about two and a half hours using DC power.
The four-wheeled tractor unit includes complete air suspension for a comfortable ride. The GSR2 safety package is also included, which includes emergency brake lights, a FORS 3 camera system with left turn speaker, moving off information, cyclist and pedestrian side sensors, a reverse camera, driver alert support, tire pressure monitoring, intelligent speed assist, and an alcohol lock preparation interface.
The new electric car will have specially created livery, as will its Gray and Adams trailer. Because of its electric drivetrain, it can operate quietly and emits no emissions from the exhaust, which makes it perfect for local deliveries. Armstrong Logistics has invested in a number of new vehicles, including the Volvo FM Electric. The company has acquired a whole fleet of Volvo FH with I-Save, Volvo FM LNG, and normal FM diesel models in the last three years alone. All of these acquisitions were made with the intention of assisting the company in expediting its decarbonization objectives. Armstrong is also placing an order for a rigid Volvo FL Electric.
Armstrong Logistics has a long-standing partnership with Truck and Bus Wales and West, a Volvo dealer, which provides all of the vehicles. The FM Electric is covered by a comprehensive five-year maintenance and repair contract.
Armstrong is among the few customers in the UK who has fully embraced the Volvo range of powertrains, encompassing electric, diesel, and LNG variants. Armstrong's sustainability aspirations are being significantly aided by the introduction of our fuel-efficient, zero-tailpipe-emission, and environmentally friendly trucks. We look forward to continuing to assist Armstrong in reaching their objectives.
The chairman of Armstrong Logistics, Justin Armstrong, commended Volvo for its high caliber and dependability and expressed excitement about the new potential the electric vehicle will bring to the business and its clients.
"As we continue on our net zero journey, our new Volvo vehicles have greatly contributed to lowering our carbon footprint and increasing our sustainability.
"At Armstrong Logistics, we always have lowering emissions as a key priority and strive to incorporate this philosophy into every facet of our business operations.
This most recent addition to our fleet marks a significant achievement for the company. With the new Volvo FM Electric, we are immensely happy to be demonstrating our dedication to lowering our carbon footprint by utilizing the newest automotive technology available.
