Amazon started using ocean shipping more frequently in 2019 in an effort to have more control over its supply chain. Since then, it has further embraced the trend: According to its website, the company's logistics division now provides container shipping from Hong Kong and mainland China to the United States, the United Kingdom, the European Union, and Japan.

While many businesses have looked at alternative forms of transportation to cut costs and speed up delivery, Amazon is instead prioritising sustainability with its new Swedish endeavour, Amazon Sea.
